Heart of Darkness: Chapter Two (Final)

Final image for the chapter two insert, including both inking and coloured version. I have kept the same colour scheme throughout for continuity, i feel it helps make the images look more like they are part of a set, rather than seperate illustrations.

Heart of Darkness: Cover and Chapter 3 (Final)

After completing both the cover and the chapter three insert i got some peer feedback to see if there was anyway i could improve the images. These are the final drafts of the cover and the chapter three insert, i have changed the Maroon line work for a darker brown colour, this helps define the line work more and create depth in the images that was prviously lost.

Heart of Darkness: Cover Second Draft

I continued to work up the second design and used the painted jungle technique from my first design in order to create a more fitting backdrop for the piece. I settled on using an orange/red colour palette as i wanted a way to reflect the conflict of the book, without being too forward about it's content.

Heart of Darkness First Drafts (cover)

I have decided to enter the House of Illustration 'Heart of Darkness' competition as part of my next project. These are the first two drafts for my cover. The top image was really just a text of techniques mainly for painting the jungle background. I have decided to work up the second image further as part of a folding book cover that will cover both the front and back of the book.
